Single girl's guide to pubs in Stoke-on-Trent

Venue- The Winking Frog, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent
Date- 27/03/10

Well ladies, I'm becoming increasingly aware that pubs in Stoke-on-Trent are not all that they are cracked up to be.....or is it the recession's fault?
The name 'The Winking Frog' sounds like a normal pub, in fact it has been recently been bought by a new landlady, the building was previously used to grow cannabis! And, really it isn't a pub.

It has three floors with different types of music playing in each area. We went down to the basement where there was a d.j. .....and us! That's how busy it was. It is a real shame because the music was good and I think if there were more people in the place there would have been a good atmosphere.

As for men, no, not men, boys/lads there was some smokers in the garden who kept coming in to talk to us but to be honest we didn't understand what they were saying, he was very drunk or something!
We didn't stay long and went off to our favourite bar in Hanley where, unfortunately, my stupid insecure (was) boyfriend showed up and did not like the fact that I was socialising with, wait for it.....other men!
God help us all.

Totty count- 0/10 oops!

Single girl's guide to pubs in stoke-on-trent

Venue- Last Orders, Anchor Road, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent

Date- 20/03/10

Sorry, I haven't been out for ages but this week it was my friend's choice of venue and it was a good place actually.
It had plenty of places to sit with plenty of regulars. Don't sit in my seat/area!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good music played after 9 o clock from the d.j area- he hasn't got a booth.
The clientele were a mixture of young and old, couples and mates hanging out. Some weird dancing occurred from some oldish guy but then that's Dads for you.
I would consider making it my 'local', it isn't that far from my house and I felt comfortable being in there.

Totty rating- 7/10 but maybe it was a good night!

The Single girls' guide to pubs in Stoke-on-Trent

Venue- The Man in Space - Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent
Date- 20/02/10

A very busy pub with a mix of clientele from the young to the old. It seems a nice pub actually, it has nice little booths to sit in.
My friend goes for a cigarette and leaves me to overhear the conversation of a young group of lads who are talking about the 'knockers on her' and she would be a 'ten pinter'- that made me chuckle a bit, how immature are these guys?
Anyway we didn't stay very long basically because my diet coke was too flat for my liking and I really didn't want to stay for another. So we broke the rule of only going to one pub and headed off to another local.
Totty rating - 0/10 (perhaps these days I'm a bit more choosy)

Venue- Trentham Hotel- Trentham- Stoke-on-Trent
Date 20/02/10

This pub has some great memories, I met my husband here but that's another story.
The pub is lovely and warm and comfy and we sit in bucket seats as we sip our drinks.
It is busy, there is a mixture of groups and couples and the atmosphere is welcoming.
It is a good place to people watch and gossip. There are a few handsome guys in here tonight but as usual they are with some woman or other. Never mind we had a good time anyway and didn't leave until past 11o clock- what party girls we are!
Totty rating- 5/10

The single girl's guide to pubs in Stoke-on-Trent

Date- 12/02/10
Venue- The Weston Coyney Arms, Weston Coyney, Stoke-on-Trent

Well, this pub is loads better than the pub we went to last week. The bar was full of young (ish) men which was nice apart from there was nowhere for us to sit and I really don't 'do' standing.
So, we had to go into the lounge area where there was plenty of seats to choose from, the bar staff were young and flirty too, so we were made to feel comfortable.

Now, the really strange thing was that there was a bouncer on the door, now forgive me, but this is not a city pub, it is a local, there was no need for it really, my mate wasn't bothered though, she quite fancied him.

Apparently they have recently lost their entertainment license due to some miserable bastards who live in the houses across the road so I imagine there is entertainment on usually.

Totty rating 6/10. There was some nice specimens in tonight!

The single girls' guide to pub in Stoke-on-trent

Venue- The White Lion- Bucknall- Stoke-on-trent.
Date- Saturday 6th February

Oh my god girls!
This pub looks so lovely from the outside. Do not judge the pub by its exterior!
We walk in and it is quite dark and the disco lights are on. Warning signal.
There is hardly anyone in the pub, a handful of lads around the pool table and some chavvy young girls. No gentlemen here, as I order drinks at the bar i get pushed in the back by some idiot trying to take a shot at a ball on the pool table. The bar man looks totally off his head and charges the drinks at a cheaper price than they should be! No complaints there, of course.
We sit down on leather type booth seats and well.....I feel really uncomfortable in there and I am so glad that I couldn't be arsed to make the effort and dress up. We have one drink and walk out of the front door where the rabble of pool guys are having a smoke and don't even have the courtesy to move out the god damn way.
Totty rating- 0/10 unless you like chavvy and immature boys.

A single girl's guide to pubs in Stoke-on-Trent.

Venue- The Loggerheads- Loggerheads- Nr. Market Drayton
Date- 29 and 30th January.
Well this week I cheated a little bit. My friend was not available and so I went to a pub that my Mother patrons often, nearly daily actually!
The pub has been revamped, a lick of paint and a new carpet and it feels fresh and new. They have a small menu of food and a good variety of drink.
Now, be warned, this is a local yokel pub and they 're not too keen on strangers. It is a bit like 'Cheers' where everyone knows your name and bra size!
Friday night was a small birthday party, I made the cake. Saturday night was quiz night and my Mother and I had great fun deliberating over answers. It was packed out with quizzers or diners. The atmosphere was good and because it decided to snow I was happy to sit close to the open fire! (Quick, call health and safety!)
Next week I'll be good and choose somewhere that I have never been.

Totty count-0/10 but girls there is a bar next door where the younger guys sit. Try there, you may get some luck!xx

Single girl's guide to pubs in Stoke-on-Trent

Where- The Tavern, Stafford
Date 22/01/10
Friday night and the high street is pretty empty, we find a pub we quite like the look of, albeit, quite empty. The first thing that hits you is the smell of fresh paint, the second, the barman!
My friend thinks the barman is fit. Nice arse, nice face, she says.
The benefit, of course, is we can get a seat right by the window so we can people watch. Lots of smokers, lots of girls tottering about badly in high heels. Girls stand up straight!
A group of guys come in and we have a nice banter and a laugh with them. They have a sense of humour.
But, by half past ten it empties, it seems this is a short stopping place before heading on to better places.
They play good dance music, not too loud, so you can still chat if you want to.
Would i go again? Yeah I think so.
Totty rating- 4/10
